Using Text to Speech for app coded in AJAX v7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone.  I created a bing map web app using php and java script with AJAX v7.  I developed the thing on a server and got it working the way I want it so far.  Now, I want to turn this into a mobile app and add text to speech functionality so the app will speak a string of text from records in an SQL database.

I coded the mobile app part using Eclipse and use a webview to display my web app through a mobile device.  It seems to work just fine, but now I want to add the Text To Speech functionality to the app and I think I ran into a brick wall.

Is it possible to retrieve JSON variable data from a webview built in Eclipse that calls a html file to initialize a map, that then uses a java script and a php file to retrieve data from an SQL database and populate a bing map with pushpins.  The html file and the java script are local in the android project in the assets/www directory.

More to the point, can I use Android Text To Speech without rewriting most of my bing map code in java on eclipse?

This more of a Android Bing Map SDK question.

  • Take a look at PhoneGap. This will give you a native pplication that can be deployed to the mobile device. This toolkit also gives you access to native functionalities on the mobile device from JavaScript.
