Users cannot log into IIS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Any suggestions about a problem I'm having with an application?

The application uses ASP3 running on IIS 6 and SQL Server 2005.  When I sign in, I have no problem accessing the application.  I'm an admin on the network. A colleague who is also an admin can also sign in.  However, all other users who are configured on the application are unable to sign on: IIS simply re-displays its credentials dialog box.

I've looked hard at the settings for the site and cannot see anything wrong.  We are using basic authentication as the site only runs on our small internal network, and http not https for the same reason.

The file permissions on the ASP code files were set to give full control to admins but only read ones to everyone else.  I changed that temporarily to give everyone full rights, but that has not resolved the problem.

I have a local copy on my development box.  If I set up a non-admin user as a local user on that box, s/he can access the application, otherwise not.  Which suggests to me that the problem has something to do with authentication on Active Directory, but what?

I can't think of anything else to try.  If the user has passed IIS validation but is then rejected by the application, an error page written in ASP should be displayed (and is for admins).

    Thanks a lot,

IIS:            ver. 6 running on Win Server 2003 SP2 32-bit
SQL Server:     ver. 2005 running on Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
                      SP 64-bit
Local copy:     SQL Server 2005 Express ed on Win XP SP3
