Not using Content Index when using EWS search RRS feed

  • Hi all, I'm using the Managed API wrapper for EWS to search folders in mailboxes, but I suspect that the search isn't using the Content Indexing feature of the Exchange 2010 server hosting the mailbox.

    The time taken to search a folder is proportional to the number of items in it, and the 'ExactPhrase' search criteria seems to do the same as 'SubString', which both imply to me that no index is being used to search the mailbox folder.

    However, using PowerShell I find that the 'IndexEnabled' flag is 'True' on the mailbox database hosting the mailbox being searched (which I believe is default).

    Is there an extra step I need, either on server configuration or API, to get Content Indexing to be used?
