    DllRegisterServer in msxml3.dll failed

I have also tried reinstalling the files in step two, with the result being still the same.

For 0x80070005 error code, you can try the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/09/04/739820.aspx

    Thanks

  • Hi

Have you tried disabling the virus scanner before running install of the Framework bits? If a virus scanner is enabled on a XP machine, the .NET Framework install fails. Please refer the related thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2601351&SiteID=1.

  • I have followed your suggestion and tried disabling my virus scanner before running the install for the framework,

needless to say that wasn't the problem and it still gave me the same error message.

I'm going to try installing it in safe mode and see how that works, I'll let you know how that turns out.

Yep guess you cant install stuff like that in safe mode there goes that idea....

  • If this doesn't work for you either can you please upload all the dd_*.* logs from the %temp% directory and share it with us?

  • Please try the following steps:

    1. Install the latest Windows updates, if the Windows not yet updates (XP at least need sp2).

    2. Disable the irrelevant services by the steps described at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/11/25/disabling-services-with-msconfig-to-work-around-setup-failures.aspx

    3. Reboot (probably due to updates being installed in your machine during the installation)

    4. Empty all the temp folders in your system drive (also make sure that you have enough spaces for installation)

    5. Try to install from the full pack of .NET Framework 3.5: http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/f/60fc5854-3cb8-4892-b6db-bd4f42510f28/dotnetfx35.exe (to eliminate source media problems)

    Thanks

  • Gathan,

Here is the error that I see in your logs:

    ExecXmlConfig:  Configuring Xml File: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web_mediumtrust.config
ExecXmlConfig:  Error 0x80040154: failed to load XML file: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web_mediumtrust.config
MSI (s) (A4!48) [22:41:46:328]: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 -- Error 25541.Failed to open XML file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web_mediumtrust.config, system error: -2147221164

Error 25541.Failed to open XML file C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\web_mediumtrust.config, system error: -2147221164

I would recommend following the steps at http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2007/11/01/5826719.aspx which address this exact issue.
