Driver support for Hyper-V guests? (NIC card problem) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 2008 x64 R2 with Hyper-V installed.
I am using a single built in GB NIC (Realtek 8111C chipset) and after using the manufacturer drivers Server 2008 does recognize the NIC and it works fine.

As my first test I configured a new virtual image and loaded SBS 2003 R2 and to my surprise the NIC card is not recognized.  I did some research and did not find Server 2003 listed as a supported OS but neither was Server 2008.

This leads me to my questions.  Do the host drivers need to support the virtual or does the virtual need it's own set of drivers?  And does anyone know if I can get the NIC I have to work with SBS 1003 virtual?

    Thanks in advance...
