Connection String storing and retrieving RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I am sorry if this question is too obvious, but I am really new to the databases, so can't help asking in my favorite forum.

Currently we have an existing application that uses SQL Server and it stores the connection string information (mainly SQLServer\Instance and the database name) in the registry and at run time it reads the registry and builds connection string on the fly. For some reason I am thinking this is not the right way. Can someone please let me know if I am right or wrong? If I am right, then what is the standard way to store connection string information and retrieving it. Can we use app.config files to store the connection string?

    Thank you,
    Suresh
