How does the Kinect Determine X and Y coordinates? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am working on a project that compares the accuracy of the skeletal tracker points to those of user defined joint positions to compare the accuracy of range of motion data. For part of the project, I need to know how the Kinect develops X and Y coordinates since the RGB camera only produces RGB data and no positional data other than pixel coordinates. I understand that the infrared camera is used to give the Z coordinate, but comparatively how are the other coordinate values produced? Is it a calculation involving RGB image resolution as a function of the depth coordinate? I have become lost in my research beyond this point.
