Windows Server 2008 R2 cannot see vlan traffic RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am trying to send traffic to windows server 2008 R2 having vlan header. But the windows cannot see this traffic. I am using wire shark utility to capture the traffic. Without vlan header traffic is seen by windows. So I am assuming I have to change the properties of the windows adapter so that it is in the same vlan. I can see "Priority and VLAN" in the "Advanced" settings of Network Properties which is "enabled". There is nothing like "VLAN ID" in the properties. Could you please help me with this?

  • Symptom:

When ping VLAN interface at high rate, occasionally ping is dropped.

ICMP ping drop when sender is too fast.

The CPU has limited resource to handle all types of request, hence ICMP process is limited to handle certain number of CPU cycles. When the number of ICMP is excessive, ICMP gets dropped at CPU.
