Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 Trial will not install

Question

The one-click installer fails with a compatibility error. Tried XP thru Win 7 compatibility options and Run As Administrator all to no avail. I just want to run Powerpoint on this Win 8 Tablet. Any chance of getting that to work?

This is a known issue. Microsoft app compatibility team is aware of it. Any version of Office (trial or retail) which uses Click-To-Run installation method won't install on Windows 8. Alternative is to use a version of Office 2010 that uses standard MSI (Windows Installer) technology.

I did find an MSI after posting this. It worked fine.

Just to let you know Office 2010 Professional Plus works for me. Make sure to uninstall the PowerPoint Viewer that came with the os install if you are installing a 64bit Office version. I don't think they jive together.
