Excel 2003 VSTO Addins RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I've built a number of Excel 2007 VSTO addins with Visual Studio 2008 with grat results.  I recently tried to create an Excel 2003 VSTO addin using VS 2005 but VS generated code that won't compile.  Specifically, it refers in several places to the "Excel.Application" object, which the compiler says is not defined.  I have .Net 3.5 installed on the machine... is that the problem?  What do I do to resolve this?

    Thanks,
    John @NLBW

  • Hi John!

Did you install the Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies in your machine?

  • Hi Jose,
Thanks for the quick reply.  Yes, I had installed them some time ago for another project.  After seeing your reply I recheckd and they are indeed installed.  Could there be a version problem?  I also checked the references installed by VS 2005 when it created the Excel addin and they all seem to be there.  I may re-install the PIA's just to make sure.

  • Hi Jose,
Well, I reinstalled the PIA's and that did the trick.  Not sure what happened, but thanks for at least pointing me in the right direction!
