Do Azure App Services have Application Keys? RRS feed

  • Question

  • The classic Mobile Services have an Application Key that I use to get access to the service but I do not see the same option for App Services. Is this accurate and if so, what is it replaced with?

  • Correct, the application key concept has been removed from the new Mobile Apps experience. Instead you are encouraged to use one of the authentication mechanisms mentioned here for accessing your app: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/announcing-app-service-authentication-authorization/

If you're looking to migrate an existing mobile service to Azure App Service, check out this post: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/app-service-mobile-migrating-from-mobile-services/. In such cases, your existing application keys are preserved as app settings.  No application keys are generated for new App Service apps, however.
