  • I looked at the vslogs.cab you linked in your first message.

    Two things:

    1. Environment details:

    CommandLine = A:\0d846caacf0a5f5b4960f1240c22\\Setup.exe
    /q /norestart /repair /KeepAUPaused /ChainingPackage
"Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express - ENU"

Was this failure part of an attempt to install VB Express?

    2. Returning IDOK. INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR [There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. Please refer to the setup log for more information. ]
     MSI (A:\0d846caacf0a5f5b4960f1240c22\netfx_Core_x64.msi) Installation failed

This could indicate a corrupted download or an issue with your Windows Installer. If you are having problems installing other products, you may need to reinstall Win 7.

However, to confront your .NET 4 issue...

Before even worrying about VB Express, I suggest you try to install .NET Framework 4.0 as an independent entity.

    PLease try the following:

Use this tool to check for, and remove, any vestiges of the previous .NET Framework 4.0 installation:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

Don't touch any other Framework versions.

Download the full, standalone .NET Framework 4.0:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718

Clean out your %temp% directory. Disable all AV/anti-malware/firewall software.

Run the 4.0 installer As Administrator.

If it fails again, please collect the logs with this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E0DA314F-6216-4A18-BC6B-7D29CF83AF20&displaylang=e&displaylang=en

After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

Readers here will need to see the full logs to determine the specific failure reason.

  • Your logs may have provided the clue needed.

    Exe (A:\808dae805d4e94fd46\Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu) failed with 0x240006 - (null).
PerformOperation on exe returned exit code 2359302 (translates to HRESULT = 0x240006)

Based on that information, I recommend you read through this thread:

    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/netfxsetup/thread/327c8126-2e95-4719-8235-4af8f3c43afc

paying particular attention to the answer from Andrew Wu, and to the confirmation from the OP that the suggested procedure worked.

Please let us know how you get on.

  • No I didn't work. Any ideas left ? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Friday, August 12, 2011 2:05 PM
  • What, exactly, in the multi-step procedure offered in the answer, did not work?

If manually installing the KB did not work, then

"If the Windows6.1-KB958488-v6001-x64.msu still could not install correctly, I would suggest you open a new question in the Windows 7 Update forum:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_update to get the Windows update issue resolved first."

    Friday, August 12, 2011 2:11 PM
  • Well I installed the KB successfully but I still cant install .net 4
    Friday, August 12, 2011 2:31 PM
  • OK, then the most recent install logs should show a *new and different reason* for failure.

As it failed again, please collect the logs with this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=E0DA314F-6216-4A18-BC6B-7D29CF83AF20&displaylang=e&displaylang=en

  • I'm sorry to tell you that the latest vslogs indicates exactly the same problems as did the previous logs.

I'm left with the suspicion that your Windows 7 installation has issues, and should be repaired.

For assistance with that (should you decide to change your mind and pursue it, the forum for best help is here:
