HTTP images are not loaded all the time RRS feed

  • Question

  • Halo all,

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question... Were having some problems with remote images in outlook.com. HTTP images occasionally return a 404. When viewing a mail it can sometimes occur that the images are not loaded. After you've waited for some time (minute or two) and you refresh the page the images magically appear, but only to disappear again a while later (2-3 minutes). this is a recurring cycle.

Serving images using HTTPS seems to be working a okay, but no so much for images served with HTTP. We noticed that Microsoft threats HTTP images differently. HTTP urls are not directly requested, they are processed by an internal Microsoft script (https://outlook.live.com/actions/ei?[params]).

Form our end it seems to be working fine, requests are first processed by the loadbalancer and distributes the request to the appropriate server. This all happens within +/-200 ms, but from the user perspective however it looks like loading the image takes much longer.

Here is an example of a broken image: https://outlook.live.com/actions/ei?u=http%3A%2F%2Fpix.copernica.com%2F8938%2Fimage.png%3Fcdmiv%3DEAIIIAAQghCAAGjmsjHZ%26hashcode%3D6f4878fe531c069512775c707d6c4f12&d=2019-07-31T07%3A29%3A23.855Z

Anyone that could help me with this problem?
