Microsoft Visual Studio Community 2017 RC "The signer's certificate is not valid for signing" error during compiling RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a .sln project which opens fine and up until recently can compile it fine on 2 other workstations. One of the workstations is running Visual Studio 2015 Community and the other is running Visual Studio Express 2010. These work fine.

The problem is with VS2015 and VS2017. When I attempt to run the project in debug mode I get this message:

Severity	Code	Description	Project	File	Line	Suppression State Error

An error occurred while signing: Failed to sign bin\app.publish\MyExecutable.exe.

SignTool Error: The signer's certificate is not valid for signing.

SignTool Error: An error occurred while attempting to sign: bin\app.publish\MyExecutable.exe	MyExecutable

I saw this article but it's not clear on what 'ClickOnce Deployment' means.

    MSBuild Error MSB3482

Answers

  • If figured it out:

    -In VS2017RC (or VB2015)
-Go to the property of the Project
    -Select the Signing tab
    -Click 'create test certificate' button

    Check out the source.
