SQL ServerMigration from 2005 to 2008 R2 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have recently migrated my 2005 SP3 to 2008 R2 which went very smooth. No problem at all and first time success. My only concern and question is that all the start-up links to my old version i.e. 2005 such BIDS 2005, SSMS 2005 and other related still EXIST in my startup and workable as well.

While my assumption was that those will be over written by newer version i.e. 2008 R2 but no. So it this  matter.

Should I leave those as it is?

Should I delete those and there will no harm to my installation and DB as well

  • The Management Tools from SQL 2005 and SQL 2008 can work together, you can uninstall them without trouble. Besides, if you will use them to manage an SSIS 2005 you'll need these because the one with SQL 2008 uses a different structure.
