How to activate Windows Developer Preview

    Question

  • How can I activate my Windows 8. It's installed in VirtualBox 4.1.8 and I can't personalize it. Internet works normal, skype doesn't work, it returns error. So, internet connection is normal, Windows version is normal too. How can I activate my Windows 8 to change some settings in the interface?

PS: Can somebody tell me in Russian, I'm afraid I'm not good enough in English :(

  • Your problem leads me to believe that a refresh of your PC is the best next course of action.
The refresh may resolve the other issues, but it is most likely to resolve the activation error message.

Here is what will happen you when you refresh your PC:

Your files and personalization settings won't change.

Your PC settings will be restored to their defaults.

Apps from Windows Store will be kept. All other apps will be removed.

Follow the steps below to restore your PC:

    Enter the Start screen

    Click Control Panel

Click General on the left column

Under the Refresh your PC without affecting your files, click Get started

Then follow the instructions that will be displayed on the screen.

Once the refresh has finished, test to see if you still get the error message.

It may be necessary to install the drivers from the manufacturers support site again, but test for each of the problems you have experienced so far before installing the drivers if they are needed again. After you install the drivers, test to see if your issue is resolved.

Let us know if this helps.

  • Moro3,

Sorry, I don’t know Russian.  Try this activation key: 6RH4V-HNTWC-JQKG8-RFR3R-36498.

    Thanks,

  • Moro3,

From the Desktop navigate to Control Panel\System and Security\System.

You will see a section titled ‘Windows activation’ and you should be able to activate the Operating System there.

    Thanks,

    Chris

  • Hello Moro3,
as far as I have experienced, WDP is set to activate itself once connected to the net. If you Search 'activate' without comas, in Settings, when you click on Activate Windows, you will see the remark Windows is Activated.
I think it is not an activation problem but it is that you need to update your PC with the most recent Windows7 drivers, troubleshoot compatibility Issues, if there are any. See your Action Center and Device Manager (you will see yellow exclamation marks on Drivers there) for driver related issues.
