SQL 2005 Active Directory group security RRS feed

  • Question

  • I create an AD group with -standard domain users and -an AD group.  All domain users and domain users in the group are in the same domain contained in the same AD group.  so the AD group would look like this:
    domain\user1, domain\user2, domain\group1

with the domain\group1 having members like domain\user3, domain\user4.

I have created a login at the SQL 2005 instance level and mapped this login to a specific database and given databasereader privileges.  All the users within the domain\user can access but any member of the domain\group1 cannot access the db.

I gave one of the members of the domain\group1 access to the database directly with their domain account and they have no trouble accessing.  So the problem lies within the sub AD group (domain\group1).

Is there a specific setup I need to use in order to authenticate the users in the sub group?  Can authentication only work with first level domain accounts?
