Geocoding Cross-street addresses RRS feed

  • Question

  • With the Spatial Data API (bulk geocoding), is it possible to send in cross-streets for address? Anytime I submit a cross-street among the list of addresses to geocode, the entire request fails with 'Abort' status instead of just that particular address.

    One of the query values I submitted looked like this:

    Broadway & Canal St, New York, NY

    Request XML Looks like:

            <GeocodeEntity Id="23" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/search/local/2010/5/geocode">

                <GeocodeRequest Culture="en-US" Query="Broadway & Canal St, New York, NY">

                </GeocodeRequest>

            </GeocodeEntity>

    Checking the job status yields:

    status: Aborted

    error message: "The data uploaded in this request was not valid."

  • The abort is likely occuring because of the '&'. Ampersands are special characters in XML. Try replacing this with &

  • Instead of & (ampersand) in intersection addresses, mention 'and' instead. i.e.

    "Broadway and Canal St, New York, NY"
