Question

Having trouble installing net framework 4 on Vista 64 bit. The installer downloads and gets about 1/4 through installing then errors out. Also having a similar problem uninstalling 3.5 or trying to modify any C++ or Net Framework program.Monday, October 3, 2011 4:57 AM

In addition to Andrew's suggestions, I noted from your vslogs.cab that you did not clear out your %temp% directory prior to running the installer.
Please be sure to do that before attempting installation again.

What is the Service Pack level in your Vista?
If you don't have SP1 and SP2 for Vista installed, you should do that first.
Make sure any remnants of failed .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.0 installs are removed with this tool:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx
Download the standalone installer for .NET Framework 4.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718
Before running the installer, clear out your %temp% directory and disable your AV software.
Run the installer As Administrator.
If the installation fails, share your install logs as follows:
Collect your install logs with this:
After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.
