error: cannot connect to analysis services 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

error: cannot connect to Analysis Services version '10.0.4000.0'.

I got this error When I tried to run a DTS package in Analysis Services 2008 in XP mode on a windows 7 64-bit machine locally. The DTS package was created in Analysis Services 2000. The error occurs on the code line that tries to create a dso object.

I have installed 2005 backward compatibility and DTS desgin-time.
    The sql browsing is running.
The User of running Analysis service is Network Service. (I also tried using my domain account which is the admin on this machine.)
I also installed Sql Server 2008 sp3 but still no luck.

Please could anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    Chas

  • First of all I'm a little confused, are you running AS2005 or AS2008? You mention AS2008 but then mention 2005 backward compatibility components and SP3 for 2008 which doesn't exist yet. There is SP3 for 2005 though.

Beyond that, was the Analysis Services database to which the DTS package is trying to connect migrated from Analysis Services 2000 or was it created on a version of Analysis Services later than 2000? Essentially DSO only works against Analysis Services objects that were migrated from AS2000. DSO is not supported for 2005/2008 native objects. You should be looking to use AMO or XMLA now.

  • Hi Philip,

Sorry for the confusion.  I am running AS2008. The SQL Server 2008 uses 2005 Backward Compatibility as there is no 2008 one? And the SQL Server 2008 got SP2.

But it is the answer.  The DTS is trying to create DSO object in AS2008. It is not supported.

    Thanks a lot,
    Chas
