How to distribute an application which uses ADO.NET RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm deploying an application which uses ADO.NET to connect to different data sources, such as, paradox bases(*.db), excel files(*.xls), VFP tables (*.DBF), access databases(*mdb). I would like to know how to ensure that I 'll get my application to work on another machine.

What must be distributed along my software so it can access these different data sources on most windows based machines?

  • Unless you use any third-party components, you do not need to distribute much. First of all you need to be sure that .NET Framework is installed and then OLEDB providers that are utilized by the application. In many cases providers installed as a part of operating system installation, in other cases you need to run installation separately. I would recommend you to create list of prerequisites (external components) for your application and then prepare list of installations that are required for each specific component.
