Error trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 DEV to SQL Server 2008 R2 DEV RRS feed

  • While trying to upgrade from SQL Server 2008 DEV to SQL Server 2008 R2 DEV, I got this error:

  • I wonder how come you could not find a “return value 3” in sql_common_core_Cpu64_1.log I got it though:

    We need to find out which account is getting Access Denied for which reg key or file(s) or folder(s). To find this out you should run ProcMon while you reproduce the issue. Then filter out the “Result” column for any “ACCESS DENIED” message.

     

    Few possibilities where this Common component installation can hit ACCESS DENIED are:

    1. Antivirus . Disable it.
    2. Insufficient permission for the user running the setup on

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Shared

    C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS

    Launch setup.exe using “Run as Administrator”
