Help - Need to create a demo with PowerPivot and SharePoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

For some reason I cannot create a demo with PowerPivot and SharePoint. I have tried different instalaltions of product version, but still no success.

When I use the beta of SharePoint (v 14.0.4514.1004) and install SQL 2008 R2 Evalution, then I get the following error during installation of SQL:
Setup cannot install SQL Server PowerPivot for SharePoint on a SharePoint Foundation 2010 server. To continue, upgrade to SharePoint Server 2010 and re-run SQL Server Setup

When I use the RTM version of SharePoint and install SQL 2008 R2, then I get the following error, during starting PowerPivot:
    Unable to open file \\?\c:\Program Files\Microsoft Analysis Services\AS OLEDB\10\FlightRecorderCurrent.trc, 2

What are the right softwareversions and configurations to use PowerPivot with SharePoint? I see a lot of movies and blog items about PowerPivot and SharePoint, but I cannot use it at all. I need to give a demo for a customer next week and I think have to say to the customer that it not (yet?) works...

    Please help! Thanx in advance!

  • Hi, you cannot use SharePoint RTM and SQL Server R2 CTP together.

Please, wait until SQL Server 2008 RTM will be released.

    Best regards, Vlad.

  • Isn't the SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM not already released?
    http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlperf/archive/2009/11/30/new-tpc-results-on-sql-server-2008-r2.aspx

I got a version downloaded form MSDN installed on my machine.
I cannot understand why other people can run demo's with PowerPivot and SharePoint and I cannot even install the software... :s

  • If you have installation media for SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM, please try to uninstall the CTP and reinstall it again. Other option is to use CTP versions of SharePoint 2010 and SQL 2008 R2. This should work for the demo.

  • Hi,

I have the same problem: Office 2010 x64 and PowerPivot x64 on Win 7 x64

Just found another posting that solved my problem: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlkjpowerpivotforexcel/thread/2620e183-31e9-42b9-8191-cee953cf0990

I just renamed the folder and did a repair of powerpivot.  Now everything works just fine...

I'm however curious about why this folder was the problem?

    Regards,

    Nico
