Sharepoint 2010. Export to Excel One way synchronization RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need to modify the Export to Excel feature so that the user can only view the data in excel but is not able to change the data of the lists through excel. Is there any way to achieve this, any permissions levels or any modifications?

  • An Export, by nature, is a copy of the data saved to a different format.  So, what makes you believe that the user is altering the live data? (This would be a link, not an export.)

In the case that you did have a link, then the security paradigm would respect the permissions granted to the user.

  • Hi,

What you want is the default behavior of SharePoint.

After exporting a list to excel, you can overwrite data in excel. But the changes you make in Excel won’t change the data in SharePoint list. And when you click refresh in Excel, the excel data will be replaced by the current list data.

Please check this article for more information about this feature:
