Differentiate 'Kinect for Windows' vs 'for XBox' through code. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I was wondering if it's possible to differentiate a 'Kinect for Windows' and a 'Kinect for XBox' device through code.

So I could handle some things (like near mode support for example) appropriately.

  • unfortunately, there's no easy way to do this at the moment.  You can put a try/catch around changing DepthRange to near mode

  • Since all "users" of Kinect enabled applications should be using a Kinect for Windows sensor, you really shouldn't need to check for this. Only developers are able to be using Kinect for Xbox sensor. Software should be chain installing our runtime.
