License Agreement & Distribution Rights RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are proposing to develop two components of a commercial software product that will integrate with MSMQ and the Windows Event Log respectively.  Our components would need to compile against the Windows SDK (or legacy versions of the Platform and .NET SDKs).  However, we would not need to redistribute any Microsoft file with our component.

Are we permitted to distribute our components freely or is our distribution subject to a particular Microsoft license agreement or agreements?

Where could we find copies of license agreements for the Windows SDK and legacy versions of the Platform and .NET SDKs?

  • Mike, we’ll be answering some of your questions in the email thread we have going.  Regarding the Windows SDK licenses, these install to with the SDKs to the \License directory.  The license for the Windows SDK for Server 2008 and .NET Framework 3.5 installs by default to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0\License.  Licenses for legacy SDKs install to a similar location when you install the SDK.
