Licencing for TFS 2015 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Why it's so hard to find licencing information about the TFS products.

They have a link where we can see clearly the licencing specifications?

    Thanks

    Steve

  • hi Steve,

you can find all information in the Visual Studio 2015 Licensing Whitepaper

the latest changes in TFS 2015 Update 2 are not mentioned but the paper should be updated soon.

In addition the right/final source for information is the MSFT PUR documentation.

    To answer your question:

the free StakeHolder role in TFS 2015 gives you free access to work items.

As soon as you need to access to code (TFVC or GIT) you need a TFS CAL. some paied edition of TFS 2015 include up-to five TFS CALs, active MSDN subscriptions bought by your organisation include a TFS CAL tp access your organisational TFS.

if you don't fall within those categories the easiest way to correctly license TFS CALs in your company is using Visual Studio Team Services (formerly Visual Studio Online)  where can by buy a TFS CAL based on a monthly fee which can be used with your organiational TFS ( this is the easiest way to license TFS CALs for external users/contractors)

  • Thanks Brian,
