WCF: What is Mex and httpGetEnabled RRS feed

  • please tell me what is mex and why it is required ?

    how mex is different fromserviceMetadata ?

    <endpoint address="mex" binding="mexBasicHttpBinding" contract="IMetadataExchange"/>
    
    <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="false"/>

    why wcf give two same thing to create proxy one is mex and other one is httpGetEnabled when both does the same thing.

  • Hello Mou_inn,

    As you state, for an http scenario they are pretty much the same thing.  The difference is when you are in non-http scenarios, then mex will allow you to provide metadata.

    I have not seen this done but I am sure some people have done it.
