WEC2013 Update Wave 2 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hi developers,

a few days ago, the latest update for Compact 2013 was released.

Before installing, I would like to discuss with you the following:

    - Has anyone of you installed this update, yet?

    - Are there big advantages of using VS2015 instead of VS2013, especially for MFC applications?

    - Since it installs the support of Microsoft Visual Studio 2015, do I loose the support of Visual Studio 2013?

    - What is your experience with VS2015 and Compact 2013?

    Many thanks in advance,

  • Hi Pascal,

I have run both. Platform Builder integrates with Visual Studio so you will have to un-install the VS 2013 integration and then re-install targeted to VS 2015.

  • Did you have any issues with license keys? I tried this but when I went to install the VS 2015 integration it no longer liked my license key.

  • I had no issue with keys.  Can you give me the set of steps you used to see the issue? What Desktop OS are you running and what level of VS 2015 are you using?

  • Install VS2015 Enterprise from web installer (assume this is not Update 1), uninstall WEC2013, install WindowsEmbeddedCompact2013.exe from the update page. Get error on license key step. Windows 7.

  • Do you have Application builder installed for VS 2015?

  • I also encountered the license error.

I made a fresh installation of Win7 Pro 64bit (German), then installed Visual Studio 2015 Professional (German) Version 14.0.23107.0. After that, I installed the Application Builder for VS2015 from the september update Version 14.0.23428.

Now, I started the platfom builder setup from the retail DVD, updated the installer (automatic, version 8.0.6228.0) and entered my retail key -> It appears the product key is not valid...

I also tried the installer from the september update version 8.2.6228.0 -> key not valid

But, then I tried without updating the installer (installer version 8.0.6092.0) -> the key seems to be valid. But in the next steps, I cannot install the platform builder, because there is no VS2013, only VS2015.

<Obsolete>It is possible, that the wec2013 installer can only validate trial keys and not retail keys?</Obsolete>

I updated VS2015 to VS2015 Update 1 RC - no change. Also tried my trial key from March 2015 - does not work, too.

  • I had a similar experience. When I reinstalled for VS2013 I had to use my old offline layout and make sure not to update otherwise it would not take my key (which is also a retail key).

  • I still have the license error.

Meanwhile I installed VS2013 and the platform builder for WEC2013 Update 5 (skipped update) from my DVD. There, and only there, my retail key is accepted.

But now, I want to update to the Wave 2 Update. I updated the application builder. Then I started the Update 23 (Wave2). The following error occurs:

"A previous version of Windows Embedded Compact has been detected on this computer. Please uninstall all previous versions and then run this installation program again."

After uninstalling, I am back with the license issue.

Please, Microsoft Compact 2013 support team, it would be very nice of you, if you just could check this and give a short feedback if you are currently working on a fix. Or, if you post a reproduceable manual, how to install the Compact 2013 platform builder into Visual Studio 2015, with the retail key from the platformbuilder DVD case.

  • To use retail key, you need to launch windowsembeddedcompact2013.exe from Latest retail DVD: embedded&ProductFamilyId=0&Languages=en&PageSize=10&PageIndex=0

  • This worked for me.  I am now able to install Compact 2013 support for Visual Studio 2015.

Unfortunately it seems as though this issue is back:

I was also disappointed that it still uses the 2012 version of the compiler and the STL, thought I suppose I was not surprised given it is the same situation as when VS2013 support was added.

  • Yes, this works. But I have also the same issue when installing the new built SDK:

You must install Windows Embedded XAML Tools before you can proceed with this SDK installation.

I have the latest version of the XAML Tools.

    Is there a workaround?

    Kind regards,
