MSBD Role to allow only job monitoring and view only job access (regardless of owner) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all-

We recently replaced a server where our end users had free reign and locked down the ability for them to run and schedule jobs.  Unfortunately doing this also prevented them from being able to view job status which apparently is hindering their ability to do there jobs.  So I need to create a role that only allows the end users to view job activity (no mater who the owner is) and view job steps, schedules, etc. (again, regarduless of ownership).

None of the default SQLAgent roles provide the level of access we need.  Does anyone have any insight on how to setup such a role?

  • The SQLAgentReaderRole database  role should provide access to job  status via activity monitor and Log File Viewer – did you try this ?  Still, your point is valid and  there are some job related information (for example, alerts) that are not visible to a user holding the  SQLAgentReaderRole. We are considering fixing it  in the next release.

    Thanks,
