"Invalid Access to Memory Location" during install RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try to install Silverlight, at 99% completion I get the error message:

    "There was a problem starting C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Silverlight\5.1.30214.0\SLMSPRBootstrap.dll

    Invalid access to memory location."

    The installation then continues, and seems to work fine until I open something that uses Silverlight. For example, both Amazon and Netflix will start loading, but then stop with an error before getting to the point where a video even starts playing. It used to work fine on this computer, and I can't figure out what the issue is now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled countless times already, with no change to the error or result. Any ideas?

  • Hi,

    >>Invalid access to memory location.

    It occurs when a program tries to access a section of memory that it either cannot access, or does not contain the information it's looking for.

    So before install silverlight, please finish the steps below first:

    • Turn off your anti-virus/antispyware software during installation;
    • Install the latest Windows updates from the Windows Update site:
    • Clean your %temp% folder (Start Menu >> Run >> Type "%temp%).

    Then please try to refer to the following steps to uninstall a silverlight manually:

    1) Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. Find Microsoft Silverlight in the list and Remove it.

    2) Use Regedit to remove the following Silverlight registry key:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Silverlight

    3) Remove the Program Files\Microsoft Silverlight directory (be sure to close all your browsers first or your directory will be locked).

    After that please try to download the silverlight from here to reinstall the silverlight.

    Also please try to check the following:
