Azure storage RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Please confirm if a client needs storage on Azure, he needs to subscribe to the storage service only. The sizing would also include Data transfer + Storage cost & he doesn't need to subscribe to an VM.

Lets say he got an on-premise machine where he takes pst back-up locally every month, he could install an agent on that machine & moves files daily to Azure storage for back-up of data or can go Back-up also but in both scenarios he wouldnt need to subscribe to any VM & estimated cost would include (Storage or Back-up + Data transfer) only

  • Hi Vikas,

Thanks for posting your query here!

The new pricing model for Azure Backup has two components:

    • Protected instances: This is the primary billing unit for Azure Backup. Customers pay for the number of instances that are protected with the Azure backup service
    • Storage: Customers can choose between Locally Redundant Storage (LRS) or Geo-Redundant Storage (GRS) for their backup vault. The net price for Storage depends on the amount of data stored with the service.

These two components appear as separate line items on the monthly Azure bill.

In your scenario you will only be charged for Storage and when you Data transfer I assume that it is outbound network bandwidth (egress) which will not be charged for any restore operations.

  • Hello Vikas,

You’ll only be billed for the storage space used to store the data and we charge $0.0036 per 100,000 transactions for all Standard storage types. Transactions include both read and write operations to storage. There are no storage transaction charges for Premium Storage.
