  • What Windows version?

Newer Windows versions have .NET Frameworks as integral parts of the OS, so responders need to know the OS version in which the failure is occurring.

For example, Vista includes .NET 2.0/3.0. Win 7 includes 2.0/3.0/3.5, plus SP1 for 3.5.

  • I am running a fairly new W7. If I run .NETCheckVersion it reports that the system is currently running .NET Framework 2.0 SP1. I tried downloading and installing dotNetFx35setup.exe. The download worked by the file does not appear to be executing when I click on it.

How do I get .NET 3.5 installed. Since I am running W7 I would have assumed that it was already installed.

  • In future, please start a new thread for your new question. Posts added to already answered threads are often ignored by forum browsers.

As I stated in my answer, .NET Framework 2.0/3.0/3.5 through 3.5 SP1 (this is all ONE framework. 3.0 and 3.5 are extensions to 2.0, not standalone frameworks) is installed as an integral part of the OS by the Win 7 installer. You will not see the framework on the installed programs list.

What is ".NETCheckVersion "? I'm not able to find any information in MSDN. If it is a third party tool, it may not be showing accurate results.

To see .NET 3.5. SP1 in Win 7, Control Panel->Programs and Features->Turn Windows Features On or Off. Find Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1, expand the node and ensure all features are turned on.
