User defined fields for excel like functionality: Has anybody tried it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Let us say in the resource sheet we have to multiply contents of cells from 2 columns  to get a third column, I am sure  we have to go for user defined field. Has any body tried it? Are there any other work around ? Thanks

    Yes, you can set up such a custom field with a formula on the Resource Sheet in Project, but be advised that unlike Excel, custom field formulas in Project can only operate on data for that row. For example, let's say you want the value in the Number3 field to be the product of the data in the Number1 and Number2 fields. Under Project/Properties group/Custom Fields select the Number3 field and enter the following formula:

    Number3=[Number1]*[Number2]

    You might want to read the following Wiki article for more information:

    Your last question was about a work around. What exactly are you trying to do (i.e. what is your end goal)? Until we understand that, we can really help you any further.
