Why would WCF fail over HTTP, but work over HTTPS? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a Silverlight project that uses a self hosted WCF service. Most users have no problem login into the site, but there is one location where that is not the case. The silverlight page loads, a 400 bad request for the .SVC WCF service is returned. This happens at varying degrees of regularity  but regardless of the browser choice the user will eventually get a 400 bad request error.

Keep in mind that this only happens from one location, and laptops that had issues from this location work fine from other connections. So I'm very sure that this is a router, connectivity and/or firewall issue.

Yesterday, i decided to go on a hunch and created an HTTPS site and set security mode to transport. Suddenly everything works fine and there are no longer any errors showing up.

Does anyone have any idea why this would be the case?
