VSS 6.0d & Windows Server 2008 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello !

I currently have VSS 6.0d with some VSS databases on a Windows 2003 Server.  Are there any issues with using VSS 6.0d with a VSS database on a Windows 2008 Server ?  I currently have VSS running on client workstations with databases residing on other Windows 2003 servers.  I am going to be in the process of upgrading various Windows 2000 & Windows 2003 servers to Windows 2008.

    Thank you.

  • As far as I know, there shouldn't be any issues.

You may need however to move your VSS database in a different location on disk (depending on where it is now).
VSS6 installs a default database under ProgramFiles folder (in VSS's install folder). If that's the database you shared and are using from the workstations you'll need to move it in a different folder - on Win2008 you need elevated priveledges to write in paths under ProgramFiles. Using that database was not very secure anyway... If that's the case, see here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181040(VS.80).aspx which files you'll need to move and here how to secure a database http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms181061(VS.80).aspx
