    Hi,

We are planning in-place upgrade for IIS apps server hosted in Windows Server 2008R2 DC to Windows Server 2019.

The upgrade path is Window Server 2008R2 --> Windows Server 2012 R2 --> Windows Server 2019.

Since we have a lots of components development team requested for in-place upgrade path rather than migration to Server 2019 IIS.

As a proactive measure, what are the steps that need to ensure before we do upgrade the OS ?

Do we need to reconfigure IIS components in Windows Server 2019 OS ?

Could you please assist me on this .

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Baiju

    Hi,

It is not a recommended way to do an in-place upgrade unless it is a virtual machine. Not all server roles and applications are supported to be migrated in older versions of Windows Server. firstly take proper snapshot/backup of IIS with database, certificate, and sites.use tools like web deploy and take a back up of the whole IIS server and then upgrade os and again restore that updates.

Clone your current machine to another machine, and perform in-place upgrade there. Once that second machine is done and verified, you can get rid of the first.

Should be easy if your original machine is a virtual machine. Even if it is a physical one, you should try to convert it to a virtual machine as soon as possible.
