  • Thank you for your message, Adam.

There are a couple issues regarding Storage Emulator 4.6 and earlier that can impact a successful install, which we anticipate will be resolved with 5.0 release.

Can you verify a couple things?

    • Was the storage emulator ever installed on this machine in the past?
    • Do you have a version of SQL earlier than 2016 installed?

  • Thank you for your replay, Keith J. Farmer.

    1. About the storage, I thought that I never install it before on my computer. Because this is the first time I use azure
    2. I don't know about the SQL. After I checked my programs, I got 3 version of my SQL server, 2012, 2014, and 2016. I thought it was installed after installing the azure. I don't know why, I just ignore it.

So this is happened because the emulator it self?

  • Unfortunately, emulator versions 4.6 and earlier don't work with SQL 2016; The 5.0 release should resolve that issue.  Our apologies for the inconvenience.

When you open up the developer prompt and try

    sqllocaldb v
    what does it list?

When I checked on developer prompt, I got this

    Microsoft SQL Server 2014 ( 12.0.2000.8)

    Microsoft SQL Server 2016 ( 13.0.2151.0)

and what should I do then?

  • For now, let's try something non-radical:

You can use the following process to recover from most init problems involving the database. Note that any data in the emulator currently will be lost.  Since you haven't been able to install it before on this machine, that's probably not a present concern.

    Delete the SQL instance:

        sqllocaldb stop MSSQLLocalDB
        sqllocaldb delete MSSQLLocalDB

    Now delete the database files:

        %USERPROFILE%\AzureStorageEmulatorDb*.mdf
        %USERPROFILE%\AzureStorageEmulatorDb*.ldf

    Finally, recreate the sql instance:

        sqllocaldb start MSSQLLocalDB

    Then retry the emulator init.

  • I've tried to delete the SQL instance and it worked.

    But for this ,

       %USERPROFILE%\AzureStorageEmulatorDb*.mdf
       %USERPROFILE%\AzureStorageEmulatorDb*.ldf

I can't find that file in my profile

  • I have the same issue with a full (non-community) edition.

    - Emulator never installed before

    - SQL versions installed:

       Microsoft SQL Server 2014 (12.0.2000.8)
       Microsoft SQL Server 2016 (13.0.1601.5)

If version 5 is the cure (your response does not sound certain "..we anticipate.." ), when can we expect that?

In the meantime, what is the workaround?
