How to query an Access 2003 columns "Format" property value using ADO.NET RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm attempting to use ADO.NET to retrieve the "Format" property from a column definition in an Access 2003 database table.  I currently have a solution using DAO as follows:

    Dim myDB As DAO.Database
    Dim myDBEngine As New DAO.DBEngine

    myDB = myDBEngine.OpenDatabase(My.Application.Info.DirectoryPath & "\data\test.mdb", False, False, ";pwd=poopsy")

    Dim myFormatPropValue As String
    myFormatPropValue = myDB.TableDefs("MyTable").Fields(i).Properties("Format").Value

    I have been attempting to use ADO.NET's GetSchemaTable() and GetOleDbSchemaTable() methods to accomplish the same task, but I am not able to find the "Format" property in the result set.

  • I don't believe it can be retrieved through the schema methods in ADO.NET - it's a Microsoft Access specific property. You will probably need to continue to use DAO.
