System Brushes for WinRT XAML RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Windows 8 xaml app, I am able to use the system resources as Static Resources as mentioned in this link. We could even modify the value of the resource in App.xaml.

It said that these resources were defined implicitly by Windows runtime. I am curious to know whether it is possible to expose our own custom control theme brushes in the same way, so that users can easily use it anywhere in App or they could overwrite the value in App.xaml.

  • I'm not quite sure what you are asking here. You may need to clarify what you really mean. What do you mean by users using it?

You can define your own resources for use in your app. You cannot define resources for other apps.

  • @Rob I think what he means is that he/his team is writing a (control) library, and he/his team wants to define a standard theme using StaticResources, and let the user of the library override those if required.

In WPF control libraries there's usually a Themes folder in the project containing a Generic.xaml file that defines global resources for the library. I haven't delved that deep into WinRT yet, but I'd assume the same is possible there.
