Workflow stops if I checkout a file

    Question

  • Hi

If I try to checkout the item I am running my workflow on ,it stops the workflow there and does not move forward.

    Is this expected functionality?

  • Yes, that would be expected functionality.  While a document is checked out it is essentially read only, including metadata.  A workflow needs to be able to update the status of the workflow stored as metadata.  So it can't run while a document is checked out.

  • Hi Tegsaran- assuming you're using SP Designer, you can do one of two things: have a step to wait for item change, and for check out to be empty, then continue the workflow. Or check out the item in your workflow first, then perform the steps, then check it back in before ending workflow.
