Report Viewer Chart to MS Excel RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am Using VS2010 to create reports using ReportViewer 2010 in an ASP.Net website. It all works great. When I Export the report to excel, The chart/graph is exported as an image. That doesn't help, because it can't be edited.

My question is: Is there a way to export ReportViewer charts to excel as charts, not images? If there is, what is it?

Or maybe one could use something else to work around this?

I tried Google with no luck.

Maybe I have the wrong idea, any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you for all your help in advance.

  • Hi Amy,

I don't think that it's currently possible 'out of the box'. I asked a similar question today on another forum and the suggestions was to use a third-party solution like Office Writer, which can handle what we are trying to achieve. Unfortunately a single server licence for the standard edition, as of today, is around $1500.

Another suggestion, in terms of a workaround, that came up was to export the raw data to Excel and write some sort of VSTO Add-in the automate the creation of the chart for the end-user, using the raw data exported by the SSRS report.

    Best of luck,
