Merge/migrate two database into one, on same server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi there,

Is it possible in some way, to merge/migrate 2 database schemas into 1 database, all on same server?

The 2 databases contain different tables, but is right now in two seperate databases (due to sub systems). But if it is possible to move the two databases into one database, without loosing any data, that would be prefered for further development.

  • Hi Grmihel,

I would recommend you to take a look at the following article which explains how to use Devart dbForge Schema Compare for SQL Server tool to compare and merge schema between two SQL Server Databases.

  • Hi Grmihel,

If you have two databases with the same schema, and then you could use SQL Server Import and Export Wizard to import the data from one database to another one. To merge the two databases, you can select Append rows to the destination table option for Column Mappings when importing the tables or views.
For more information about SQL Server Import and Export Wizard, please see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms140052.aspx.

If you want to merge two data sources, you can use SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) or using TSQL Statement.
