While time of creating any other resource like storage account again we need to select location for example "Australia East".

When a resource group is created then it is created in the given location.. for r.g. "US East". Remember that resource group is also a resource in Azure and it need to exist in a particular Azure location. Also, resource group contain metadata information about other resources and this metadata is stored in the location you specify when creating the resource group.

Resource group is kind of a logical container to hold all related resources together. These related resources can be in a single geographical area or spread across different geographical area. So, when you create a resource, you specify the location where it need to be created. For instance, when you're creating a storage account then you specify the location where this storage account will be created. It could be same location as of where resource group (of which it will be part of) exists or another location.. it all depends on your overall application design and implementation plan for resource creation/usage.

You can find detailed information about resource groups, their purpose and more in following Azure document:

    Azure Resource Manager Overview

  • Hello

Below is the definition of Azure Resource and Azure Resource Group.

    • resource - A manageable item that is available through Azure. Some common resources are a virtual machine, storage account, web app, database, and virtual network, but there are much more.
    • resource group - A container that holds related resources for an Azure solution. The resource group can include all the resources for the solution, or only those resources that you want to manage as a group. You decide how you want to allocate resources to resource groups based on what makes the most sense for your organization.

We can group resource from various location in one Resource group based on our requirement.
