Edit a table in design mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I have a 2005 Server and having problems with one of the database. I have a Security group assigned to the database called DEVELOPERS within the roles of: db_datareader, db_datawriter, db_ddladmin, db_executor (a group we created to grant execute rights) and public.
One of my users in this security group gets a message when opening the database (or the tables section) moaning about not being a dbo. When he right clicks a database and chooses DESIGN mode, all of the fields are greyed out and nothing can be edited. However, he is able to make changes using a SQL script on the same table. I don't want to grant dbo but is there a way (a less god-mode privelidge perhaps) to let users of this group edit tables in design mode.
    Thanks for listening....

  • You need to grant the view definition state to the user/role for the database.

You can do this in SSMS if you right-click on the DB and go to permissions.

If your more of a t-sql person then:
