Conditional report rendering based on render formats for 2008 and not 2008 R2 SSRS Reports RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have an older report that we are trying correct that does not shows as we want when displayed in the ReportViewer control (Interactive) in the ASP.NET application but renders correctly to PDF.  In the 2008 R2 we are able to use an expression global variable that had been introduced - "RenderFormat" (i.e., Globals!RenderFormat.Interactive) to allow us to add certain formatting specific to Interactive or PDF or any other rendering extension.  In addition, this is a RDLC (local) and not RDL (server hosted).  Is there another feature that was used before 2008 R2 to allow us to add conditional formatting based on rendering type without having to write two separate RDLC, one specific to Interactive and another one specific to PDF?  There is no chance to upgrade to 2008 R2 with this particular application since its being retired soon.  Thank you!

  • Hi blairv,

According to your description, you want to apply condition based on render format in versions before SSRS 2008 R2. Right?

In Reporting Services, the global variable RenderFormat is not supported until SSRS 2008 R2. For versions before SSRS 2008 R2, there's no feature which can help us capture the report render format. So for your requirement, it can't be achieved in SSRS 2008.
