Access Error 2683 Treeview: on more time troubles with mscomctl32.ocx RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since a couple of days, many users of our access- based software have the Error Message 'Access Error 2683 Treeview'. i looks like that an office update (Version 2016) distributed since the last couple of days created this problem.

This is not a new problem. it occured first in 2012 und in the past we were able to solve it with deregister and register again the mscomctl32.ocx file, according the instructions from Microsoft Support http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2748410

But now in this new case this does not work.

I hope the anyone has a solution to solve this problem

Answers

  • Microsoft is aware of the problem and has promised a fix, but they haven't said how long it will take.

In the meantime, uninstalling the most recent Office update(s) should restore mscomctl32.ocx functionality.

  • Here is Microsoft's official acknowledgment of the problem (although the article is for Word, the part about mscomctl applies to other Office applications too): Fixes or workarounds for recent issues in Word for Windows

I assume that updates will be posted there too.

  • The problem has been fixed in an update of the click-to-run version of Office 2016 (build 8326.2087).

  • There are 2 distinct, but similar issues presently.  1 for MSI installations and one for CTR installations, so you have to be sure to apply the correct fix.
