How do I give stakeholder access to users with Basic/MSDN subscriptions in certain areas RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have different teams working on different areas of a portfolio. These teams have different areas. All users have MSDN subscriptions or Basic licenses. We need someone working in team 1 have stakeholder access to team 2 area. If we give them Readers access for the area, they cannot add comments/discussion. However, if we give them Contributor access for the area, they can progress work items.

How would I set up permissions such that

Team 1 - Contributors in Team Area 1. Other team users (with basic licenses) has stakeholder access.

Team 2 - Contributors in Team Area 2. Other team users (with basic licenses) has stakeholder access.

  • What you are asking for is not possible. Licenses are scoped to a collection (TFS) or account (VSTS), not per team.

As you figured out we have a security model around Area Paths, but the reader permission will indeed open the work items read-only.

We have a story on our backlog to introduce the manage backlog order permission. Would that satisfy your needs?
(we don't have any immediate plans to deliver this story in the next 6 months)

Sorry for not having a better answer.
