Displaying autocad files (.dwg extension) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would need to display .dwg files (autocad files) in my application. Is there a way to do it for free?

  • You'll need to google for this. This forum is for C# specific questions only. Start with NuGet and then expand from there. Note that there may be licensing restrictions such that you have to pay money but only the package/library owner can answer that.

  • I understand but .NET doesn't support it so you have to use a third party product. Starting with NuGet is the best option as that is where libraries come from. Autodesk has their packages there but often there are licensing restrictions so you cannot use their product without paying them. You'll have to research the options available.

A quick google reveals they have an ActiveX control that ships as part of their libraries so you can host it in your own UI. Again, licensing may come into play here. You'll have to look at their rules.

Could you please help me with the details of the ActiveX control?

  • For help embedding an ActiveX control in winforms please refer to this MSDN article

For specific help using Autodesk's control you'll need to post to their forums. They should have documentation on what you'll need to do as it is specific to their controls.
