What is the best way to create an installation package using Visual Studio 2005? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have develped a Windows Forms application using Visual Studio 2005 and C#.  Up to this point, I have distributed the application in-house by simply creating a zip file with all of the needed files.

I now need to create a more official installation package.

---> What is the best approach for doing this?

---> Does it ever make sense to use a 3rd-party product such as InstallShield?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Hi WTW,

You can create setup package with Visual Studio. Here is a tutorial.

An installation package generated by VS should contain all the files of your application. VS setup project also have many functions to meet different kind of need, such as add register entry, set prerequisites. According to your description, the application can be used after copying files. So you don’t need any register entries or prerequisites.

If you have any other requirements, please feel free to tell me.
